Have a healthy pregnancy. Of course, with all the eating, it is inevitable they will gain weight. Let’s be honest. When you find out you are pregnant, even with just one, you will gain weight. What is the average weight that a woman gains?. That is about 25 to 30 pounds. If you already starting out at a normal weight. For patients coming in overweight, we recommend maybe 10 to 15, 20 pounds. A little less. Otherwise, normal pregnancy, about 25 pounds. Let’s say you are carrying twins and triplets, everyone is different, 75 pounds. What is the normal weight if you are carrying triplets?. 75 pounds is normal. Fantastic. Kind of roughly about 25 pounds per additional baby. If you are starting as a normal weight. Not all women gain much. Some game gain less. And you can absolutely have a healthy pregnancy if you gain less. Some gain a lot more. We don’t like them to gain so much more, but you can still have a pregnancy if that is the situation. >a lot of women hear the rumor that you are eating for two, eating for three. That is not true. Explain that. When you hear eating for two, i think a lot of times patients take that to mean i need to eat literally twice as much. When, in fact, the additional number of calories when you’re having just one pregnancy is about 200 to 300. Which is like an apple or a granola bar. You are not supposed to be doubling your portions. Certainly, if you’re having triplets, twins. You’re not supposed to be tripling, quadrupling. Everything has to be in moderation. That mantra is unfortunately not true.
