Types of Diabetes Interview With Angie Placeres
Angie Placeres, Registered Dietitian with Baptist Health South Florida, explains diabetes is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the beta cells that make insulin. Those who get diagnosed with type 1 have to inject insulin for the rest of their life, because they can never make it again.
She says type 2 is more insulin resistance, which means the body is still producing, but not as efficiently as it used to and many times those individuals will take oral medications.
