There are mild or severe food allergies. Anaphylaxis is one of the serious allergic reaction and it can cause cardiopulmonary collapse, explains Dr. Ivette Espinosa-Fernandez, Pediatric Emergency Physician.
She says if anything is causing a severe allergic reaction, such as severe rash, swelling to the eyes or any difficulty breathing, it’s better to use an EpiPen injection.
The expert also describes, there are mild allergies, which can be treated with steroids or Benadryl.
The doctor affirms if a child has a known peanut allergy, or has it to soy or wheat, it’s better to avoid any of them. It’s best to read the nutrition label very well.
