COPD in Women and Men
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the most common lung disease and more women are dying every year than men because of it.
Dr. Ana Viamonte-Ros, Medical Director of Palliative Care & Bioethics with Baptist Health South Florida, affirms this is interesting because men on average smoke more than women and COPD is extremely linked to smoking: 9 out of 10 cases of COPD are caused by smoking.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality. Women are more susceptible to lung cancer than men. Non-smoking women are twice dying and developing lung cancer than non-smoking men.
